Hey, friend!

I'm Mel, the one yielding a hook and swimming in a small studio full of yarn.

It may sound creepy but you are always in my thoughts when I'm planning, designing, making, writing and filming. So while I really want to get to know YOU, I'm guessing you're here to learn a little about me? So here goes...

A messy perfectionist

I love detangling things. Yarn, life, board game instructions. For me, there's something so special in the art of taking something messy and giving it order. The studio swings between curated beauty and creative chaos and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Writing crochet patterns follows this same magical process for me. I love it. Taking a messy creative design process and turning it into a clear, visually helpful guide... it's what dreams are made of!

So, you can expect patterns that are packed full of thought and care, and I suspect my love for this craft shines through too.

A brief history

I started crocheting the day my sister told me she was pregnant. By the time my nephew arrived I'd made him a whole menagerie of toys! I was (literally) hooked.

It was only a matter of time before I started playing with stitches, placements and colour combos to create my own designs. I tentatively listed my first pattern on Etsy in July 2019 and was absolutely GIDDY when I heard the first "cha-ching" that same day! From there the passion for crochet has grown, as has my love and appreciation of this wonderful community of makers.

Beyond the Studio

When I'm not counting stitches and weighing yarn, I work as a creative practitioner in theatre and games. I live in the beautiful spa town of Buxton in the Peak District (yep, we are home to the delicious Obama-approved water) with my very wonderful husband and our adorably bonkers cocker spaniel, Charlie.

I love a cup of tea and a good chat. Eurovision is my fave weekend of the year. I get the hiccups whenever I drink something fizzy. I'm half Swiss and live-up to the stereotypes of loving efficiency, good timekeeping, chocolate and melting cheese. I adore adventures, quests, and finding secret pathways + hideouts. I find curiosity, passion, kindness and playfulness the most attractive qualities in people. I have very little patience for rudeness. I give a lot of compliments.
